This cheesy beef pasta bake is a comforting dish that’s perfect for any family dinner!
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the 8 ounces of penne according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic and sauté for about 3-4 minutes, until the onion is translucent.
Add the 1 pound of ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until fully browned (about 6-8 minutes). Drain any excess fat.
Stir in the 1 can of tomato sauce, 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. Let simmer for about 5-7 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked penne pasta with the beef and sauce mixture. Mix well until the pasta is evenly coated.
Transfer half of the pasta mixture to a baking dish. Sprinkle with 1 cup of cheddar cheese and then top with the remaining pasta. Finish by adding the remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese on top.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
